Dancing is actually NOT ALLOWED AT BETHEL.
NOT ALLOWED.
Not that I particularly FEEL like dancing when I'm at Bethel, but NOT ALLOWED! ARE YOU FOR SERIOUS??
This makes me wonder what we're going to do in Spanish class on Friday. We'd been scheduled to salsa, and I bet you can imagine how much I'm looking forward to that--awkward time with people I barely tolerate. At least I'm tall; then I can volunteer to dance the gentleman's part (since we're very low on guys in our block) and that will make things ever-so-slightly better. But can I get out of it altogether by saying it's unBethical? (Holly taught me that word today.)
This makes me want to start line-dancing or something right in the middle of campus to see what would happen. Would half a dozen security guards emerge from nowhere and tackle me? (This is what I've been envisioning. It's what I'd like to think would happen.) Something to contemplate when I feel like screaming.
I don't know if this is a happy or a sad day, Sis-'n. I know you'd count it as a reason to rejoice, but I don't like them infringing my freedom. If I want to kick my heels a bit, let me.
Hey, Meg, a friend of our family (who was one of Rachel's best friends) went to college at a Methodist school in Kentucky. No dancing allowed there either. Sometimes the girls would do a "happy dance" when they were excited about something, and then giggle about the Dance Police coming after them. But then there was the day Coral actually got up on a table in the cafeteria and dance-danced. If I remember correctly, there were no repercussions. She got in mega-trouble for some other things that were ridiculous, but that's entirely apart from dancing.
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOODNESS I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO STAND NOT DANCING IF I WERE IN YOUR SHOES AS IT WERE
ReplyDeleteALSO I SYMPATHIZE WHOLEHEARTEDLY WITH YOUR LAST TWO SMALL SENTENCES
Have you heard the joke yet that they a don't allow sex at Bethel because it could lead to dancing? ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's all about the wording...no "dancing" but "choreography" is fine...I think they also have some sort of liturgical dancers too (whatever they would call it ;P
Naomi
Mrs. G.: Figures.
ReplyDeleteEthan: I KNOW YOU WOULDN'T
AND I KNOW
Naomi: Hahaha, I'd forgotten it.
Yeah, I hung out with Holly yesterday and we "pranced" a few times.
Like the choreography on stage... ????
ReplyDeleteYep, the choreography in all their musicals is fine...they also do not allow any R-rated movies on campus (but I think every teacher I had showed snippets of R rated movies and would joke about us not telling anyone they showed them, har har) ;)
ReplyDeleteNaomi
So... you turn 18, go to school, and can no longer watch R rated films. Nice.
