Mostly a Deutschland post

Yeah, Germany is awesome. Drinking is allowed at any age, i think, and beer is a very common drink. They don't refridgerate their drinks. They have this thing called radiation, and they do that instead of pastuerization. It's illegal in the US, but it's fine, really. So they keep their milk in a box on the counter. They don't put ice in their drinks, and they have mineral water all the time. We're gonna have to drink tap water. Um… you have to be at least 18 to get a driver's licence, but speed limits are like eighty or something like that. Though they count by kilometers, not miles. But homeschooling is totally illegal there. If you're homeschooled over there and they find out, they'll put your parents in jail and you in a mental facility because they think you must've been brainwashed. They're really strict, too. If you don't sweep up to the middle of the street in front of your house, you could get fined or arrested or something. Which is why everything looks so neat and clean. All this i've been told, of course.

I did IOWA testing yesterday morning, and the morning before that and the morning before that.

Dishes are calling.

Hey

Today is Friday the Thirteenth. I guess i should say, "Mwahahahahaha!!!" or something like that.

Mwahahahahaha!!!

I got a camera. It's digital, and small, and fancy! I think it's the second most expencive object i have been just straight given, as far as i can think. (Yes, that's very far.) The number one, of course, is glasses. Are glasses? Is or are? I'm ignorant and apathetic. (notice the a at the beginning!)

Good Friday

Yup… today. The service was… actually, i don't know. Kind of depressing, but in a good way. You know?

Jesus, my Lord and God, died for me, a poor miserable sinner. I committed all these sins, and and He, the Pure and Blameless One, took the fall. He was nailed to the tree and died that way. Numbered with the transgressers. The Bible… it has this incredible plot, that never gets old… and is beautiful and terrible at the same time. He died for me, the one who gets destracted by cold and certain wordings (the last communion hymn was: The Death of Jesus Christ, Our Lord (as time permits)), while Pastor read his Death. He wore a crown of thorns. Was scourged, made fun of, betrayed. Crucified. I - we all - should be the one crying, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?*

But the wonderfull thing is, since He took death in our place, He conquered it for us. Death's power is gone. But i should be getting to that in two days.

Wednesday night, a lady at my church died. Becky L. Her birthday was going to be on Sunday. She had a stroke ten years ago, and has been unable to do many things since. She was in a wheelchair, and could hardly do much of anything, including talk, though i know from other people she was a very nice and intelligent lady. Her husband took care of her since. I saw him in church yesterday. I didn't have a chance to talk to him, but Mrs. L. got her own Easter. A couple days early. She's been released from her earthly prison.

A blessed Good Friday and Holy Saturday to you.

*This is actually Psalm 22.

Celebrating the anniversary of the eternal victory of Grandpa

Three years ago yesterday my Grandpa died. Three years ago Sunday was the thing at the funeral home when he was in the casket, and three years ago Monday was the funeral.

Why should cross and trial grieve me?
Christ is near
With His cheer;
Never will He leave me.
Who can rob me of the heaven
That God's Son
For my own
To my faith hath given?

Though a heavy cross I'm bearing
And my heart
Feels the smart,
Shall I be despairing?
God, my Helper, who doth send it,
Well doth know
All my woe
And how best to end it.

God oft gives me days of gladness;
Shall I grieve
If He give
Seasons, too, of sadness?
God is good and tempers ever
All my ill,
And He will
Wholly leave me never.

Hopeful, cheerful, and undaunted
Ev'rywhere
They appear
Who in Christ are planted.
Death itself cannot appal them,
They rejoice
When the voice
Of their Lord doth call them.

Death cannot destroy forever;
From our fears,
Cares, and tears
It will us deliver.
It will close life's mournful story,
Make a way
That we may
Enter heavenly glory.

What is all this life possesses?
But a hand
Full of sand
That the heart distresses.
Noble gifts that pall me never
Christ, our Lord,
Will accord
To His saints forever.

Lord, my Shepherd, take me to Thee.
Thou art mine;
I was Thine,
Even ere I know Thee.
I am Thine, for Thou hast bought me;
Lost I stood,
But Thy blood
Free salvation brought me.

Thou art mine; I love and own Thee.
Light of Joy,
Ne'er shall I
From my heart dethrone Thee.
Savior, let me soon behold Thee
Face to face –
May Thy grace
Evermore enfold me!

  2. (doesn't seem *so* special anymore, next to thoughts of Sita) The Rhein Family isn't going on their usual vacation this year--we're going to Germany! We're driving to Chicago and catching a plane on April 30th, and it'll land in Frankfurt after - ugh - ten hours. And we're coming back the same way on May 19th. My blog will be vacant during that time, i believe. Ooh, and our flights - They're on Air India. Weird, huh?
